The Florence-Lauderdale Public Library flanks one side of Wilson Park in downtown Florence, and was designed to harmonize with the traditional architecture of the surrounding neighborhood and the post office, churches, and banks of downtown Florence. The building, made of cast stone and brick, is centered on the axis of the park. The interior spaces included areas for stacks, a large children’s/youth area, a snack shop, a book store, and conference/meeting rooms. A historic, semicircular, carved limestone panel, originally installed on the old Gilbert Elementary School in Florence, graces the top of the Wood Avenue entrance.
